Mas El Calvo, a masia celebrating its centenary this year. Located in the Font Roja natural park, you will find peace and quiet here. Alcoy, a bustling university town, is a 10-minute drive from the masia. So, you can eat out, enjoy theatre performances or grab a terrace on the Plaza de Dins.

It was built as a farmhouse and contained rooms for tractors and other machinery. However, the masia has been completely renovated in recent years, keeping as many original details as possible.

Entering through the stately door, you enter the spacious living room. The living room gives access to the huge kitchen.  The kitchen gives access to the partly covered terrace with the indoor pool and, of course, the fantastic views. On the other side of the living room, you come through the library into the hallway where the bedrooms are.

On this floor are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms:

Ananda - An L-shaped bedroom, with balcony and large bathroom with shower, double sink, toilet, bidet, whirlpool bath.

Ganesha - A double bedroom with private bathroom.

Prana - A single room with bathroom in the corridor.

Yin yang - A single room with bathroom in the corridor.

Back to the living room, double doors open onto the courtyard.

On this floor are 3 bedrooms and a large living room with kitchen and bathroom. This living room is the farmhouse’s original servant’s room. The original bread oven can still be found there, as well as a huge storage room. And the bodega with a newly built massage room.

Mandala - A double bedroom with private bathroom with shower, toilet, double sink and lounger. Mandala has its entrance via the servants’ house or via the courtyard.

Buddha - A double bedroom with private bathroom, entrance via the courtyard

Tadasana - A double room with private bathroom. Entrance through Buddha or through the back of the house.

The courtyard has a large gate. If you leave the house through this and turn right, you will reach the current yoga room. This yoga room has underfloor heating, a full bathroom and a small kitchenette. With a little intervention, you could turn this into a nice guest apartment with two bedrooms.

Around the house are several seating areas.

Across the road you will find the olive grove. About 80 fully restored olive trees that produce a nice harvest every year and after pressing you can enjoy delicious olive oil.

This house is very special, and no description can reflect reality.

This property would be ideal as a B&B or casa rural. You also have the option of having a spacious house for your own use upstairs and renting out three flats downstairs. You could easily make a two-bedroom flat in the yoga room and turn the two new bedrooms into a living room/kitchen and bedroom.  In the old part is the servant’s flat with living room, kitchen and bathroom and another large bedroom with bathroom.

Whichever way you look, you will see landscape after landscape, as well as some fascinating historic treasures. If we were asked to name one man-made element that defines the Alcoy skyline, it would be the bridges. These impressive constructions surge above the uneven lay of the land, connecting various parts of the town. Don’t miss María Cristina bridge, Sant Jordi bridge and Viaducto de Canalejas. 

The town is replete with some beautiful architecture. Modernism left behind a full catalogue of buildings and monuments that are well worth a visit and the historic centre showcases the town planning ideals of the second half of the 19th century. Santa Rita and San Blas streets also speak of the importance the metal industry played in the town. 

 Alcoy is a town with a long history, as can be seen at the Medieval site. Dating back to the year 1256, the year in which the town was founded, this area was once the heart of a settlement which has grown and evolved over the centuries. 

There are also plenty of churches, museums and other sights to visit during your time in this pretty inland town. And that’s not to mention its delicious local gastronomy and traditions that are still very much alive. 

Alcoy is renowned for the Moors and Christians Festival (an event of international tourist interest), Feria Modernista and the magical trilogy of Alcoi Ciutat del Nadal, which boasts the oldest Cabalgata de Reyes (three kings’ parade) in Spain. In terms of cuisine, there are plenty of traditional recipes for you to try such as olleta, borreta and pericana.
